EDUCATION AS A HUMAN RIGHT

Firstly, what is Education? Education is a process of
teaching, training, and learning, especially in schools or colleges, to improve
knowledge and develop skills. This, however, can be at different levels like
elementary education, secondary education, higher education, adult education
classes, a college education, the state education system etc. Education is the
most important thing in a person’s life, it makes sense, it has effects on the
mind, it changes the character.

Furthermore, human rights are moral principles or norms that
describe certain standards of human behavior and protected in municipal and
international law. Human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom
from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work
and education, and many more. Everyone is entitled to these rights, without
discrimination.

Education is an elemental human right and essential for all
other human rights. It is a powerful tool by which socially and economically
marginalized children and adults can lift themselves out of poverty. It also
consists of the right to freedom of education. Freedom of education is the
right given to human beings to have access to the education of their preference
without any constrictions.

The right to education is an inherent right. Right to
education is the right that deals with the right to know and right to change
their life and lifestyle. In most countries, education is free, at least in the
elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory.
Technical and professional education is generally available and higher
education shall be equally accessible to all based on merit. The human rights
are developing of understanding, gender quality and make a friendship among all
nations.

Education should be a meaningful right and it must be
available, accessible, acceptable and adaptable.

 

Qualities of Education as a human right:

1. Availability:

Education should be available for all and without cost,
minimum the primary education and fundamental level. The government should be
able to make it available for the citizen. The apex government ensure schools
are available and the state government or the local government or county brings
it to the individuals.

 

2. Accessibility:

All the educational institutes should be accessible for
everybody. Nobody can be discriminated on the basis of race, sex, color,
religious affiliation, economic status, language and immigration status or
disability. The scholars must be able to study in a safe environment with
reasonable distance from the community. Cost of materials must be affordable
and whoever wish to proceed beyond the elementary stage must have access to the
schools too.

 

3. Acceptability:

The education learning method of school should be acceptable
to the parents for their children, and they should be fulfilling the national
norms that they set by the government also should be providing equality in education.
There must be variety of schools to be chosen from to suit the individual norms
or culture.

 

4. Adaptability:

Adaptability depends on the learning method and lifestyle;
this means the education has to be flexible and easy. Adaptability promotes
equitable outcomes for learners. The education should be adaptable for all the
student stages.

 

In conclusion, education remains everyone’s human right and
must be a meaningful right and it must be available, accessible, acceptable and
adaptable.
