How can writing profiles of local community members teach students useful skills like researching, asking effective questions, listening, note-taking, fact-checking, storytelling, connecting with experts and, of course, writing and editing with clarity, voice and style?
In this webinar, we will introduce our brand-new Profile Contest and related writing unit, show you how the contest can work in any subject area, and share tips, stories and “craft moves” from New York Times experts.
The webinar will feature Corey Kilgannon, whose engaging profiles of ordinary New Yorkers helped inspire the contest, along with a Times photojournalist and Katherine Schulten, the Learning Network editor.
The webinar will be about one hour long, including live questions and answers. New York educators may receive Continuing Teacher and Leader Education credit. All participants will receive a certificate of completion.
