Experiencing Major Moments
The best day of the year was June 24th. The day I finally got my license. As someone who’s on the younger side of my class, my friends had all been driving months before me. While I was getting my permit, the majority of my friends were receiving their licenses. I dreamt of their freedom and responsibility. After months and months of waiting, the day finally came. It was the day I took my license test and my nerves were up and down and butterflies took over my stomach. It was finally my turn to take my test after waiting behind five other people. I couldn’t believe how nervous I was after I returned to the driving school waiting to hear if I passed. The moment she handed me the pink temporary license slip, the biggest smile came to my face. I was so happy to finally have the freedom my friends had and realized the wait wasn’t all that bad. I had the summer ahead of me to drive and experience my new responsibility and I couldn’t have been more thrilled.
My best day of 2021 was October 30th when I went to see Harry Styles in concert. I bought the tickets for this show in March of 2020, only a week before Coronavirus swept across the globe and everything shut down. For over a year, I endured social isolation and virtual school and I became anxious that the world would never return to normalcy. But, as soon as I heard the first note of the opening song “Golden” and he appeared on the stage, it was all worth it. The adrenaline rush and happiness that I felt at that moment erased all the months of anxiety from my mind.
Spending Time With Family
The best day of my year was in March when I got to see my grandpa for the last time before he passed. He was healthier than, than the moment he passed so it makes me happy that I am able to remember him living painlessly rather than recollecting memories of his suffering. That day that I visited my grandpa we picked mangos off the trees in his backyard, we played rounds of dominoes with each other. He always beat me😁. And we ate side by side while watching The Incredible Hulk. This was not only the best day of my year, but the best day of my life.

One of the best days of 2021 was early September when my family was able to get into a video call with my relatives in South Korea; also known as Chuseok, or autumn harvest festival, all my relatives visit my grandparents which makes the perfect opportunity for us to video call each year. While this has become a tradition ever since my family moved to America, we treat it as a moment that should never be missed. One of the main reasons I view this day as one of the best day of 2021 is because I have not visited my relatives overseas for about 4 years now, and while seeing all of their faces makes me glad that they are doing well, it also reminds me of how much I wish to visit South Korea to meet them. Hopefully, the opportunity for my family to fly across the Pacific will come soon.
The best day I had in 2021 would have to be two days before it had ended. My far away family was in town so I got to see my favorite person in the whole world, my cousin Syndol. Her personality can only be described by the color yellow, but not an annoying one, more so a soft and sweet one. With her here I wanted all of my friends to meet her so The day before New Year’s Eve everyone came over and crowded in my room. There were six of us all pretending we had enough space, the air smelt like lemon zest from the candle I was burning. Someone suggested we play a party game and then we did for several hours. Switching between four different games we were all entranced from 9pm to 2am. Laughing and smiling our heads off the whole time. I appreciate nothing more in this life than my friends and my family.
Celebrating Special School Memories
2021 was a rollercoaster of a year, so trying to think of one particular best day is hard. However, the day that sticks with me most is when, over the summer, I was at band camp for marching band and our section won the Section Olympics, a variety of challenges that each instrument group competes in. I, along with two of my friends in my section, won the march-off before going on to win it all. I remember very vividly the feeling I had while taking our victory lap around the field: it was a warm feeling that contained both ecstasy and bittersweet nostalgia. I was, of course, so unbelievably happy and proud of us for winning, but it made me sad to think about how I only had one more year left of this before only memories would remain. It was also a sad moment for the seniors, this being their final year and all before leaving us and moving on with their lives.

One week before the last day of school, me and my 10th grade class, we went to the beach. As i live in Martinique in an island, going to the beach is normal and usual. In Anse-Arlet, we spent the day to play, to swim, to take a plunge and and discuss. From an external point of view, this journey in nothing goal. But after this, when I went back home, I realized that the students in my class were united. And I know, in a class cohesion is rare and very precious when it is present.
