“We all have one — a dish we don’t need a recipe for,” begins a recent Times article. If that is true, what is yours?

It could be something as simple as a grilled cheese sandwich or the perfect popcorn. How do you make it? How did you originally learn the recipe — or is it something you invented yourself?

If you don’t know any recipes by heart, what do you wish you knew how to make without consulting directions? Why?
