When you study through Open Universities Australia (OUA), it’s so much more than an online experience. As shown at the Macquarie University graduation this year, students have the option to attend their graduation. Gown, mortar board and all.
So, what did our proud students have to say on their big day? We attended their graduation to find out.
Elisabeth, Graduate, Bachelor of Arts (Ancient History)
Come graduation day, Elisabeth was reflective on her choice to study online. While making the decision was big, she feels it was the right one.
“It feels pretty great to be graduating today,” she beams from beneath her cap.
“The online learning experience allows you to study when you need to… It’s flexible, and it works.” Now, Elisabeth has the certificate to prove it.
Marilyn, Graduate, Bachelor of Arts in Modern History
Marilyn worked hard to put her children through school – sacrificing her own education so that her kids could have a better life.
For her, gaining a degree resembles doing something that’s just for her.
“When I saw retirement coming towards me, I thought I would do what I had worked to put my three children through,” she says.
On the day, Marilyn was emotional. She says the experience was one she’ll treasure forever.
Jodi-Maree, Graduate, Bachelor of Arts (Ancient History)
Having completed her degree online through OUA, Jodi-Maree wanted to make sure she had a “real life” graduation experience.
For her, it was about seeing years of hard work come to life.
“I’m really pleased that I attended. It makes it feel a bit real.”
